Losing My Religion

I wouldn’t consider myself religious. Sometimes, though, I can recognize spirituality consuming my heart and mind. This isn’t the spirituality of an omnipotent being or any being for that matter.

I don’t pray to a higher power. I don’t believe in sin. I don’t believe in Heaven, or Hell, or Nirvana. I don’t believe in judgement.

I do, however, believe in people. I believe in higher energies that feed off positivity and negativity. I believe in Karma. I believe in goodness. I believe in love.

I’ve known this much about myself for about 2 years. Those who’ve known me for more than 4 years would know I haven’t always thought this way. My best friend, Amber, and I used to sing in ONE Band. This was a Christian Youth Worship band for two sister churches in Hutchinson, Minnesota. We did this our freshman year and some of our sophomore year. Slowly after that, she grew up, I grew up… I explored and discovered and experienced and learnt things for myself and formed my own beliefs. Right or wrong.

Any belief system formulated any differently would be foolish. Then again, that’s just my belief. It’s an inconsiderate and cowardly thing to force beliefs on a young person and using fear to enforce them. It’s even more sad when people let it happen to themselves. Society, family, judgements control what shapes most peoples’ beliefs. They close their heart and mind to other possibilities.

I don’t know if I’m right. But what’s important is that I live in a way that I can be proud of. I do not answer to anybody else’s judgements.
